Program Description

Families First is a five-hour educational seminar for divorcing parents who have minor children. The program focuses on making the transition from marriage to divorce with minimum trauma to your children. The CASTLE uses a parenting curriculum developed by Families First, a not-for-profit organization, providing critical preventative services to families. The curriculum educates parents and family members on ways to handle the additional tasks that divorce places on childhood development. These tasks are addressed through lecture, video tape, role play and discussion. The topics are:

Emotional Reactions

Involvement with the Legal System

Changes in your Economic Situation

The Period of Adjustment

Establishing a Co-parenting



Relationship

Helping Your Child to Adjust, and

New Family Structures. A Certificate is provided to all participants who complete the full seminar. Please also note that CASTLE also provides a program High Hopes for Kids for children dealing with parental divorce or separation.

Hours of Operation


Indian River classes offered once at month from 5:30pm - 10:30pm pm on a Tuesday evening. The office is open 8a to 5p Monday through Friday. Call for schedule.

Eligibility Requirements and Important Information

Court ordered or Self Referral. Individuals who have an existing restraining order muct call our office in advance to arrange attendance in a class. Pre-registration is recommended, however walk-ins are welcome. Must bring $50.00 cash, a picture ID and plan to arrive 15 minutes early. You must attend the full session to receive a certificate of completion. Attendance will be confirmed with the court. Do not bring children as we don't provide daycare. Total Cost: $50 per participant. A $20 fee will be charged to you for returned checks.
