Program Description

The Junior League of Indian River, Inc. is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. The Junior League of Indian River, Inc. reaches out to women of all races, religions and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to voluntarism.

Promoting Voluntarism: JLIR's collaboration with other non-profits demonstrates the value of a JLIR volunteer and allows JLIR members the opportunity to interact with a variety of community organizations.

Developing the Potential of Women: Through the nominating and placement process, potential leaders are identified and placed in leadership positions which include Board and Chair positions. Members have the opportunity to gain new skills and learn how to be better leaders, managers, volunteers and members of the community.

Improving the Community: JLIR has identified and met immediate short term needs by partnering with other agencies on Community Impact Projects. Through JLIR's Community Research and Project Development process JLIR members research community needs and develop project proposals to bring forth the next major community project.

They also evaluate current projects annually and make necessary recommendations to the membership for renewal, termination and carrying forward unused budgeted funds to the next fiscal year.

The current major community project is Whole Child Indian River.
